Project History

Supporting Entry to Employment (E2E)and workbased learning providers to deliver quality basic skills project funded by LSC South Yorkshire

Since work commenced in October 2003, a number of activities have been run for providers in the region and the project has involved:

  • Setting up an email network to ensure that providers have a regular update of training events in the area and news of developments in local, regional and national basic skills initiatives.
  • Individual support has been offered and has been accessed in various formats – the project consultant has advised and supported the four E2E programmes in the area, visited individual work based learning providers, given advice on the telephone and by email and has held surgery sessions in different locations throughout South Yorkshire.
  • A series of workshops have been held at the Source at Meadowhall, to address specific needs of providers in the region.
  • Workplace basic skills courses have been delivered by Network trainers to help providers build on their existing relationships with employers.

From August 2004, a new ‘Skills for Life Professional and Development Network’ in South Yorkshire will co-ordinate all the support for Skills for Life provision across all the sectors funded by LSC South Yorkshire. In view of this, The Network’s contract was extended from the end of March until July 31st 2004 and in that time, the Network launched the new SfL Resource Centre at the Yorkshire Training Partnership (YTP) on the 10th June 2004. This was one of the outcomes of the very successful collaboration between YTP and Tooled Up for Basic Skills (TUBS) that began in the first phase of the project.
