About Us

The Network for Workplace Language, Literacy and Numeracy (The Network) is a national, self-funding and not-for-profit organisation. After 15 successful years we are now working as an independent unit but were formerly part of Lancaster University.

Our mission is to develop and support stakeholders responsible for quality strategic operational enhancement of language, literacy and numeracy in the workplace.

We have been established for over ten years working successfully with international, national & regional agencies to assist the development and management of workplace language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) through our six strategic aims:

  • To maximise national Networking Partnerships and Operations
  • To provide responsive local and regional development expertise
  • To further the Continuing Professional Development of stakeholders
  • To provide Advice, Guidance and Consultancy
  • To contribute to Policy formulation
  • To engage in Research activity

We have supported the DfES (now DIUS ) through a number of funded projects, to help deliver 'Skills for Life', the national strategy for improving adult literacy and numeracy skills. We also work closely with many key agencies in the field of workplace LLN development, such as the Learning and Skills Council, Regional Development Agencies and Sector Skills Councils, to ensure that our work is complementary to other initiatives, and has currency in an arena of fast-changing strategy and targets.
